The New York Yankees have acquired Aroldis Chapman from the Cincinnati Reds in exchange for four minor league players.

The Reds get right-handers Caleb Cotham and Rookie Davis and infielders Eric Jagielo and Tony Renda from the Yankees.

"We felt this was an opportunity for us to add a big arm to our bullpen," said Brian Cashman, who already has Dellin Betances and Andrew Miller at the back end of his bullpen.

A baseball source told ESPN's Wallace Matthews that the Yankees made the trade knowing both Florida law enforcement officials and Major League Baseball are continuing to investigate the Oct. 30 incident in which Chapman allegedly choked his girlfriend and then fired eight shots from a handgun in the garage of his Davie, Fla., home.

The Philies and Astros have finalized their deal involving closer Ken Giles, according to an ESPN.com report on Saturday.

The Astros get the hard-throwing Giles, but the Phillies receive former No. 1 draft pick Mark Appel in the deal. The right-hander had not previously been reported as being in the deal.

The New York Mets have acquired Neil Walker from the Pittsburgh Pirates for Jonathan Niese.

New York focused on acquiring Walker after Ben Zobrist signed with the Chicago Cubs in free agency.

Mets assistant general manager John Ricco compared the trade for Walker to how the Mets moved on from their aborted pursuit of Carlos Gomez at the trade deadline. The Mets turned around and acquired Yoenis Cespedes.

"It came together pretty quickly today," Ricco said. "I think the start of it was last night. Roy Smith, one of our top scouts, was in contact with the Pirates. They mentioned Neil Walker might be available. We started talking about some names back and forth. It really came together about midday today to where we got some traction and were able to get a deal done. ... He's a guy we had on our short list, but didn't know if he would be available. We view him as a real positive alternative to the deal we were looking to do the other day. He fits on a lot of different levels -- a switch-hitter. He's got some power. A real good fit for our team. I think we're pretty happy to have him."

The Chicago White Sox have acquired Brett Lawrie from the Oakland Athletics in exchange for minor league pitchers Zachary Erwin and J.B. Wendelken.

Chicago had placed a premium on acquiring a long-term option at third base this offseason.

"If Opening Day were today, he would be our third baseman, but Brett also brings a level of versatility where he has some experience playing second base," Rick Hahn said. "So, it's conceivable during at some point in his White Sox career he plays over there."

The New York Yankees have traded left-hander Justin Wilson to the Detroit Tigers for minor league pitchers Luis Cessa and Chad Green.

"This is a power guy," Alex Avila said of Wilson. "He's going to come after ya."

Wilson will be paired with Mark Lowe in the setup role for Francisco Rodriguez.

Following the move, Avila said the "bulk" of the Tigers' offseason work is done.

The Seattle Mariners have acquired Adam Lind from the Milwaukee Brewers for a trio of prospects.

The Brewers will receive minor league right-handers Carlos Herrera, Daniel Missaki and Freddy Peralta.

The Seattle Mariners have acquired Wade Miley and right-hander Jonathan Aro from the Boston Red Sox in exchange for pitchers Carson Smith and Roenis Elias.

Miley, 29, went 11-11 with a 4.46 ERA for Boston last season, but he pitched better as the season progressed.

The San Diego Padres have acquired Drew Pomeranz, minor league left-hander Jose Torres and either a player to be named or cash from the Oakland Athletics in exchange for Yonder Alonso and Marc Rzepczynski.

Pomeranz can either start or come out of the bullpen. He had surgery on his pitching shoulder in October and is expected to be ready by spring training.

Alonso hit .282 with five home runs and 31 RBI in 2015.
